Where the rain is more romantic

I’m a day late, and out of words. It’s been a busy week trying to get a story re-revised and into my critique group on time, and a lot of new freelance work, and oh chemistry and just everything. It’s raining, too. So let’s say we all just look at these pretty pictures from the Lake District* and pretend we’re somewhere else.

*Okay, I cheated. The 2nd photo, of the trees, isn’t from the Lake District, but from the Cleveland Way on the NE coast, somewhere between Whitby and Ravenscar.

All photos by me, Alisa Alering, or by David Ripley. (c) 2012

  1. I am going to pretend I am in picture three, with a thermos of hot tea, a hunk of fresh bread and a wheel of cheese.

  2. A fine choice. You will need your hot tea, as it is raining, but if you walk a little farther through the gate there will be so many bluebells you will not mind the wind that drizzles the rain down your collar, nor your soggy feet.

  3. I *like* that tree picture.

  4. Gorgeous photographs! I’ve always wanted to go to the Lake District, and satisfy some Elizabeth Bennett fantasies 🙂

  5. i love the squiggly trees. actually, i love everything.

  6. Jenni, On this last trip we also went to the Chatsworth estate, which is a little farther east. There’s decent evidence that it was the actual inspiration for Pemberley.

  7. Fieryskull, Thanks! Just for added atmosphere, right behind those squiggly tress is a cliff that drops down to the North Sea.

  8. Hey Alisa!
Lovely photos 🙂 I’m a graphic designer and I’m gonna do an illustration with cameramatched houses and I think that your images here is absolutely perfect to have as background. I’ll modify the image so maybe it will not be obvious it’s the same photo but if I get permission to use your image I’ll of course give you credit for it. So is it ok if I use it? I’s just for personal use in my portfolio 🙂
